About Petrapole PS

Petrapole, located at Indo-Bangladesh Border, is the largest land custom point in India and Asia. Petrapole is about 95 km from State capital on NH 112 and 06 km from Bongaon city. Nearly 1,500 tourists and 500 goods vehicles cross the International border daily which is expected to be more in coming days. The landport alone accounts for nearly 60 per cent of the bilateral trade between Indiarnand Bangladesh. accounts for more than half of the $4-billion (nearly double the trade volume with Pakistan) trade with Bangladesh.\r\n\r\nConsidering the importance of the place, a dedicated police station curving out Chhayergheri Mouza, (8.29 sq.km area) from Bongaon PS, was created by West Bengal Government on 30 th September, 2016.\r\n\r\nPetrapole is famous for the Petrapole-Benapole Retreat Ceremony, a joint military exercise similar to the Wagah Border Ceremony and engages soldiers of Border Security Force (BSF) and theBorder Guards Bangladesh (BGB) which takes place every evening.
